No a Newt

Newt Gingrich no llegará a ser presidente. Podría llegar a ser el nominado del Partido Republicano, porque el partido ha sido capturado por fuerzas de la extrema derecha, pero él no ganará. Aparentemente a ellos no les gusta Romney. Para añadir a su fastidio los Evangélicos escogieron a Santorum sobre Gingrich o Romney. Pero la principal razón por la cual el ex Speaker nunca ganará la presidencia es que él simplemente no puede ser elegido. Además, en un ambiente de malicia y tacañería, él es el más cruel. El entrevistador Juan William le preguntó acerca de su afirmación de que "Más personas han recibido cupones de alimentos por Barack Obama que ningún otro presidente en la historia de Estados Unidos". Recibió un aplauso sostenido cuando respondió a Juan Williams implicando que el periodista preferiría el welfare a empleos. Fue así cómo el debate se tornó en otra cosa. El hecho de que la mayoría de las personas en welfare son blancas no importó. La implicación fue que Obama ha aumentado cupones de alimentos para ayudar a los ciudadanos negros. No to Newt
 
Newt Gingrich will not become president. He could become the nominee of the GOP, because the party has been hijacked by extreme forces from the right, but he will not win. Apparently they don’t want Romney. To add to their annoyance the Evangelicals chose Santorum over Gingrich or Romney. But the main reason the former Speaker will never win the presidency is that he is truly not electable. Furthermore, in an environment of malice and meanness, he is the meanest.
The interviewer Juan Williams asked him about his claim that “More people have been put on food stamps by Barack Obama than any president in American history.” He got a sustained applause when he responded to Juan Williams implying that the journalist would prefer welfare to jobs. That is how the debate became something else. The fact that most people on welfare are white didn’t matter. The implication was that Obama has increased food stamps to help black people.
Barack Obama’s ascendance to power was supposed to signal an end to all conversation about race. He was supposed to be the pos-racial president. But the campaign for the White House in 2012 has revived the issue with more impetus because the right wing wants to depict the president as a divisive figure who wants to upend the entire social structure of this country. And the president’s race, while not overtly mentioned in any of these arguments, is the backdrop for the comments by Tea Party loyalists and others. Newt Gingrich knew that he had placed Juan Williams in a difficult spot: he would have to defend food stamps over jobs, or say that jobs are more valuable and permanent. But that was not the point of the question. For Gingrich, the fact that he speaks that way—stating what he calls uncomfortable truths—will not earn him voters or the respect of American citizens. At this moment, when there is so much unemployment, food stamps help millions who need them. His mean spirited statements explain why he is not in power.
