Civil Rights conference
JAN SULER, Esq. Partner, People’s Law Office. For 40 years, the People’s Law Office of Chicago has successfully represented victims of police and abuses perpetrated by other government officials. Attorney Susler will be discussing human and civil rights implications within the context of her representation of Puerto Rican political prisoners. After two decades of representation, she served as lead counsel in the efforts culminating in 1999 presidential clemency of their sentences. She continues to represent those who remain imprisoned. Clean-up in Harrisburg
Harrisburg Clean Streets Project, is working with Weed and Seed and the Widener University School of Law's Environmental Law & Policy Society to coordinate a community cleanup of the South Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg, PA. The purpose of this cleanup is three-fold: (1) to physically beautify the neighborhood; (2) to bring awareness to citizens that litter and dumping are significant problems; and (3) to instill a sense of pride and self-worth in the community. Anyone able to pick up litter or hold a garbage bag is welcome to participate. The area we are covering is bound by Cameron, Market, 18th, and Paxton streets. We are meeting at the Harrisburg Discipleship Center, 333 South 13th Street, at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday April 18, rain or shine. Kimmel Center Presents’ Free at the Kimmel events continue in February through the seventh anniversary season with more than 90 free events and performances to take place throughout the center’s spaces this year. Conferencia de inmigración
Family Services of Montgomery County and the Bryn Mawr College School of Social Work and Social Research will co-host a half-day conference on immigration for social workers, case managers, educators, lawyers, clegy, doctors and nurses, and anyone who serves immigrants (documented and undocumented).
