Además se presenta una escena de la obra teatral que montó Duarte con su grupo "La dramática". Fue nominada a los Premios ACE 2008 como mejor obra de época y mejor dramaturgia.

Escritora, comentarista y poeta Iris Violeta Colón-Torres y su más reciente publicación, La Rosa de Cristal, una colección de poesías dedicada a su fallecida madre. Puerto Rican Panorama

Oportunidades de empleo y cómo economizar dinero al pagar impuestos federales son los dos temas del próximo Puerto Rican Panorama. Dos policías estatales de Nueva Jersey anuncian que la Policía Estatal de ese estado está aceptando solicitudes de empleo por un corto tiempo. Además, la Campaña para Trabajadores avisa que le preparan las planillas de impuestos de gratis y ofrecen información para rebajar la cantidad de dinero que tendría que pagar en impuestos. Este programa se transmite (con subtítulos cerrados) por el Canal 6 (abc-TV) este sábado por la tarde a la 1:30 p.m. Se repite el domingo a las 5 a.m. y durante la noche entre domingo y lunes a las 3:30.

Latin Jazz Vocalist Claudia Acuña Pays Tribute to Billie Holiday and Philly’s Own McCoy Tyner Reunites with Special Guest Joe Lovano. January 14, 2010. The winter jazz schedule at the Kimmel Center continues to honor Philadelphia’s vibrant jazz roots with a tribute to Billie Holiday’s “Lady in Satin,” and a performance by a locally-bred legendary pianist with his own star on Philadelphia’s Music Walk of Fame. Chilean jazz vocalist Claudia Acuña pays tribute to Billie Holiday with a Pan-Latin jazz program entitled Lady in Satin Goes Latin in Perelman Theater (Saturday, February 6, 2010). Philadelphia-born pianist McCoy Tyner returns to Verizon Hall, joined by “one of the greatest musicians in jazz history” (New York Times) saxophonist Joe Lovano (Friday, February 19, 2010)

University of the Arts

The University of the Arts presents Women and Pop Art, a symposium organized in conjunction with the University's "Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists 1958-1968" exhibition, the first focused exclusively on women Pop artists. The two-day symposium features several of the artists, along with prominent art historians. Both the symposium and the exhibition aim to redefine the legacy of these extraordinary and long-overlooked artists. Locks of Love

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. www.locksoflove.org

Please Touch Museum

"Exploring Trees Inside and Out," presented by Doubletree Hotels and the Arbor Day Foundation, debuts on Saturday, Jan. 23. Despite the winter cold, the City of Brotherly Love is giving locals and visitors a taste of the great outdoors with the "Exploring Trees Inside and Out" exhibit opening at Philadelphia's Please Touch Museum on Saturday, January 23. The spacious, 2,500-square-foot exhibit, developed by Arbor Day and the Dimensions Educational Research Foundation, is designed to create a better understanding among children age two to 10 about the significant role trees play in the environment. A variety of inventive and interactive activities allow children to explore trees in a multi-sensory way never before possible through its fun-packed and educational components. "Exploring Trees Inside and Out" will be on display at Please Touch Museum through May 2, 2010.

Philagrafika 2010

In January, Philadelphia will host the inaugural year of Philagrafika 2010 (January 29 – April 11, 2010), an international festival that celebrates the role of print as a vital force in contemporary art. Set to be one of the largest arts events in the United States, Philagrafika 2010 will showcase the work of more than 300 artists and will unite 88 Philadelphia art institutions, including Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Moore College of Art & Design, The Print Center, and Temple Gallery, Tyler School of Art, Temple University. The festival is curated by Artistic Director José Roca, an internationally recognized Colombian curator who co-curated the 2006 São Paulo Biennial. Roca first came to Philadelphia in 2002 after participating in the Whitney Museum’s independent studies program, serving as the Institute of Contemporary Art’s Whitney-Lauder Curatorial Fellow.

Artista colombiano

Visita a la Universidad de Pennsylvania en enero del artista Colombiano Miller Lagos. El maestro Lagos es internacionalmente conocido por sus instalaciones contemporáneas. El estaría en Filadelfia desde el 7 de enero al 27 de enero trabajando una obra nueva en la galería de Penn (Arthur Ross Gallery). Baile con Raíces

Raíces Culturales Latinoamericanas anuncia la apertura de sus clases de baile para los adolescentes después de la escuela durante el semestre de la primavera del 2010. En su estudio ubicado en 2757 Calle 5 Norte, 2o piso parte atrás, el instructor Frankie Cruz enseñará baile folklórico y moderno del Caribe los lunes y miércoles de 4:30 a 5:30 de la tarde. El semestre está dividido en tres sesiones; cada sesión incluye diez clases y una presentación final de los estudiantes. Cada clase cuesta $10 ($100 por sesión), y se paga la sesión completa al principio da la sesión. Sesión uno—Salsa—el 25 de enero – 1o de marzo. The Goodlands

The Goodlands: Young Photographers Inspiring Hope in North Philadelphia Neighborhood Photography by Children of Fairhill and West Kensington On View at the Penn Museum December 10 through May 2010. Since 2000, more than 800 children from the Fairhill and West Kensington neighborhoods of North Philadelphia have participated in a unique community-based after school and summer arts program run by Centro Nueva Creacion: The Goodlands®. Beginning December 10, 2009, the Penn Museum presents The Goodlands: Young Photographers Inspiring Hope in North Philadelphia. Penn Museum is located at 3260 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (on Penn's campus, across from Franklin Field and adjacent to SEPTA's University City Regional Rail station serving the R1, R2, and R3 lines). Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Closed Mondays and holidays.
