Puerto Rican Panorama

En el próximo Puerto Rican Panorama, una representante de la Comisión de Relaciones Humanas de Pensilvania explica como tratan de combatir la discriminación. Además, la majestad audio-visual de Corcovado; y las imágenes surrealistas del fotógrafo Alex Trejo. Este programa se transmite por el 6abc-TV el sábado, 13 de junio, a la 1:30 p.m. (con subtítulos cerrados para su conveniencia).  Se repite el domingo a las 5 a.m. y durante la noche entre domingo y lunes a las 3. Después del fin de semana, se puede seguir viendo por la telecadena “Live Well” que se sintoniza en el 6.2 de su televisor digital o mediante su servicio de cable (el Canal 245 de Comcast) todas las noches de martes a domingo a la 1:30 a.m.

Asian Festival

As a part of the PECO Multicultural Series, the 6th Annual Asian Festival will take place on June 20, 2009 from 12 Noon to 6 p.m.  It will be a celebration of the Asian heritage through entertainment, activities and food highlighting the diversity of the Asian culture. This FREE event, presented by PECO, will take place on the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. All activities celebrate the heritage and diversity of the Asian community and span cultural practices from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

FLAME Program

The US Olympic Committee annually hosts a FLAME program (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere).  The program is an education program where college students spend four inspiration-filled days at the US Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs.  Selected participants receive free airfare and accommodations in the athletes’ dorms. The 2009 program will run August 1-4, 2009. Tartaglione new Website

Speaking in support of Pennsylvania’s efforts to provide new technology to people with disabilities, state Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione announced a redesign of her Senate Web site to make it more accessible for vision or hearing impaired constituents. “About a year ago, I found out about software that reads Web sites for the blind,” Tartaglione told officials and supporters of the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation (PATF). “At the same time I found out that many Web sites -- including my own -- can be confusing to users of this software because of fancy bells and whistles that look clever, but the software can’t read.” For more on PATF, visit Tartaglione’s redesigned Web site at: www.SenatorTartaglione.com.

Delaware Art Museum

Ancestry and Innovation: African American Art from the American Folk Art Museum on Wednesday, at the Delaware Art Museum. This folk art exhibition offers a dazzling array of quilts, paintings, and sculptures from three generations of creators.  Featured artists include Clementine Hunter, Leola Pettway, Thornton Dial, Sr., and Thornton Dial, Jr.  Ancestry and Innovation celebrates the ongoing contribution of African American artists to the kaleidoscope of American cultural and visual experience.
