Vote on Tuesday

Edicion 260

With elections just around the corner in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, it is important to remember not just to go out and vote, but also to make sure you vote for the candidate that better fits the needs of your community.
Among the many races that will take place on Tuesday November 3, we will focus on those that may impact our community the most. In Philadelphia the race for District Attorney is getting heated with mostly negatives ads that focus little on the candidate’s strengths. For his ten years of experience as an Assistant District Attorney, and his proposed program to fix the broken criminal justice system of Philadelphia, Seth Williams positioned himself as the best alternative for the job, and Impacto chose him as the candidate of its preference.
Only two gubernatorial races are taking place on Tuesday in the nation, one in New Jersey, and the other one in Virginia. Nationwide, Democrats and Republicans alike are pushing hard to advance their candidates. In New Jersey, the race is tight among the incumbent Democratic Governor John Corzine seeking reelection and Republican Chris Christie.
During the summer, Corzine was behind Christie by near 17 points, as the election nears the gap has narrowed and it is now a virtual dead end. Since reelecting Corzine represents a continuity for the state policies as well as and advance for President Obama’s agenda, Impacto strongly encourages Latinos to vote for Governor Jon Corzine.
Another important race on Tuesday is the one for Mayor in Camden. The impoverished city of Camden needs to make sure it elects the candidate that will take from that agonizing stage to a higher one, where violence, unemployment, vacancies, and a broke school district are part of the past. The independent candidate Roberto Feliz has a good program to deal with the city’s maladies.
And please do not forget about Judge Teresa Sarmina, the first Latina running for office statewide in Pennsylvania, who is vying for Superior Court.
