Williams as D.A.

Some of the elected positions in play in the elections next Tuesday are really powerful and have a critical impact in the quality of life of all Philadelphia residents.
Lynne Abraham’s decision not to run gain for District Attorney, position that she holds since 1991, opened the race for the second most important position in the city, after the Major of Philadelphia. Five democrats, all of them with experience as Assistant District Attorneys are running to be elected to fill the position on the Democratic primaries this Tuesday May the 19th.
In a city like Philadelphia with a high rate of crime and thousands of illegal guns on the street, the experience and qualifications of a candidate for the D.A office, are critical to assure the due process and to public safety and quality of life. The District Attorney manages the criminal justice system, a staff of 300 lawyers, a $30 million budget, and handles more than 1,000 cases per week.
After a review of the resume and platform presented by the candidates, Impacto has decided to endorse Seth Williams as the best candidate for the District Attorney Office, and encourages all his readers to vote for him on Tuesday. Four years ago Williams lost to Abraham by a close margin.
Williams worked for more than 10 years as an Assistant District Attorney under Lynne Abraham, and is the only candidate with experience managing the D.A.’s office. Under Major John Street, Williams also served as the city’s Inspector General for two years.
His strategy to make safer neighborhoods and to attack the prevalence of the guns in the city with a much more comprehensive approach supports our decision to endorse him.
For the Court of Common Please, we support Judge Angeles Roca, who is looking to be elected for a full term. We also consider being good candidates Adam Beloff, Vince Giusini, Mrilyn Rigmaiden-Deleon, Johnathan Q. Irvine and Gregory A. Coleman.
For the Municipal Court, Impacto believe in the good profiles of Charles Hayden, Joseph Waters, Thomas M. Nocella and Pat Dugan.
